It depends on the medication. If it is amoxil (an anitbiotic) we know it is for an infection. We don't know specifically what type of infection. If it is a certain combination of drugs ie. doxycycline and flagyl we pretty much know it's for an STD.
My pharmacist has always looked at me funny since I took a year old pack of contraceptive pills to him to ask if they were still OK to take.They of course were, but I was 15 and I had read something that said they didn't work after the bbf date.
I think if the medicine is common enough, they know. E.g. if you pick up lithium, they have a pretty good idea that you are bipolar.
