This is not a test. Unless it is, and no one told me so I haven't revised, which means I'm going to fail. Thanks for that.

Meshing - a step in the right direction or a daft idea?

A new option available to couples who choose to get married, want to keep their own names, but don't want to double barrel them is meshing. Harking from the states it basically means combining both names to come up with a totally new one. Blair and Bus = Blush etc.

I know, I'm so totally NOT allowed to blog at work, nevermind surf the net, but this one was just too good.

Oh God Nooooooooooooooooo. I just think that's unbelievably tacky. Keep your names, or better yet pcik your own, and let go of all this nonsense I say!

I'd already come up with that idea! Goddamn. And, call me soft, but I think it's nice :-) Plus there's no conflict over what name the potential kids take.

Hmm I'm not really into this - not sure that it works and I don't think it is a great use of language. I noticed on channel 4 news this lunchtime that the business presenter has taken his wife's name since getting married, and it's not often that happens!

Hilarious!!!

Blush - sums it up doesn't it?

Apparently something like 80% of workers in America spend an hour a day at work checking blogs... so don't feel so guilty! lol

I loved the idea of creating a new last name. I tried to convince my partner to go for it but he wouldn't despite how cool our new last name would be (or silly depending on your taste, I admit).

But no he wouldn't go for it so we kept our own names.

To be honest I didn't try to convince him too much. We're not having children so there isn't really any need to have one name to pass on. And I don't know if I could have been bothered changing my bank accounts, drivers licences etc if he did agree.

Still, I like the concept. It seems the surname pool is getting smaller and smaller, I think we need to create more names.
